OT Services

Herts Ability provides OT assessments for home adaptations like the local authorities do, but without the wait time.

Sometimes, changes at home can allow someone with a disability to continue supporting themselves through the use of assistive equipment and furniture, and from changes to the living space. This page explains how we can help.

Bathrooms

Kitchens

Garages

Living Rooms

Herts Ability’s home assessment service is run by an Occupational Therapist and is designed to advise you on equipment and adaptations to allow you to stay in your own home for as long as possible. It looks at everything from simple equipment solutions to full adaptations of bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, garages etc, but we do not address moving and handling needs, but we may be able to point you in the right direction.

Local authorities usually provide these assessments, and still do, but as time has gone by and demand has increased, their wait list has had to grow. At the same time, some clients discover during the assessment process that they may not be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG). Click here to learn more about DFGs.

This is where Herts Ability’s assessment comes in. As we deal with far fewer clients than the local authority has on their list, we may be able to see you sooner for your initial assessment.

For now, Herts Ability’s Home Assessments are offered only within Hertfordshire until the service is more established, but our plan is to expand to reach clients further away.

The cost of a home assessment is £140. This includes a written report of the OT’s findings and recommendations, and advice on where to get the things you need.
